GenCon 2022 Summary

This year we were able to make it to Gen Con.

We were able to secure a nice Escalade SUV. We did some routine maintenance on it, packed it full of books and other things we needed and drove to Indianapolis from Tacoma.

The drive time was about 33 hours. We took our time on the way to Indianapolis and visited a few of the chief Librarians friends. On the return trip we kept to our goal of getting back to Tacoma ASAP.

We rented a house!

This was one of the best decisions we made. It had 4 bedrooms and an office room. This means we could house 5-8 people. It was much cheaper than getting 2 or 3 hotel rooms. We can highly recommend this if you are going with a group to a convention.

We were in the JW Marriott, this made loading in easy, their loading dock was a bit tricky to find, but empty.

It did take a while to set up as we had to add books to our ever-growing catalog.

We were sponsored by Renegade Games! How many Renegade titles can you find?

Two of our key team members tested positive for COVID. The first was the day before the convention started, and the second on Friday (day 2) of the convention.

The two people in our core group that did not get COVID, did amazing. They put through a lot of effort to ensure the problems we were experiencing didn’t negatively impact the show for the attendees.

Thank you!

Having only two people to pack up the library meant that it took a long time to pack up.

Having the Chief Librarian not be able to collect donations may have been a good thing. We may have ended up shipping books that we couldn’t fit in the vehicle.

The Chief Librarian and the Librarian Herder drove back. The rest of the team flew back. The trip back went

smoothly.

We will see you at Emerald City Comicon in a few days.

Then DragonFlight the weekend after, then PAX West at the end of the month.

We have been busy!
